Biographical Information:
Dr. José A. Santiváñez Guarniz, is a Professor in the Department of Industrial and Management Engineering at Universidad del Turabo, Puerto Rico, USA. He earned a B.S. in Industrial Engineering from the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú, Perú, MS in Operations Research and PhD in Industrial Engineering both from Northeastern University, Boston, MA.
Dr. Santiváñez is member of the (Industriales de Puerto Rico) Puerto Rico Manufacturing Association (PRMA) Operational Excellence Committee and director of the Alliance Pro-Culture of Excellence (APCE) of the Puerto Rico Board of Professional Engineers (Colegio de Ingenieros y Agrimensores de Puerto Rico). He is member of the Institute of Industrial and Systems Engineers (IISE) and the Institute for Operations Research and Management Sciences (INFORMS).
His areas of expertise include operations research, stochastic modeling, operations management and business analytics. His research interests include logistics and supply chain network design, service/information availability and survivability, service and humanitarian logistics, critical infrastructure interdependence and resiliency, hazardous materials transportation, and locational theory.
Dr. Santivañez has published in several refereed journals, presented in several scientific meetings, and served as subject matter expert for the Scientific American magazine.

El Dr. José Antonio Santiváñez Guarniz es catedrático del Departamento de Ingeniería Industrial y Gerencia de la Universidad del Turabo. Obtuvo un Bachillerato en Ciencias en Ingeniería Industrial de la Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú, un Master en Ciencias en Investigación de Operaciones y un PhD en Ingeniería Industrial ambos de Northeastern University, en Boston, MA.
El Dr. Santiváñez es miembro del comité de excelencia operacional de la Sociedad de Industriales de Puerto Rico (PRMA) y es director de la Alianza pro Cultura de Excelencia del Colegio de Ingenieros y Agrimensores de Puerto Rico (CIAPR). El Dr. Santiváñez es miembro del Instituto de Ingenieros Industriales y Sistemas (IISE) y del Instituto para la Investigación de Operaciones y las Ciencias de la Gerencia (INFORMS). Sus áreas de experiencia incluyen investigación de operaciones, modelaje estocástico, gerencia de operaciones, y “bussiness analytics “.
Sus intereses de investigación incluyen diseño de redes loísticas y de cadena de suministro, disponibilidad y sobrevivencia de servicio/información, logística de servicios y humanitaria, resiliencia e interdependencia de infraestructura crítica, transporte de materiales peligrosos, y teoría de la localización, temas en los que publicado en revistadas arbitradas, presentado en varias conferencias científicas, y consultado como experto para publicaciones como Scientific American.
